This week on the Hub Program Spotlight we would like to feature University of Indianapolis Women’s Golf, a program that competes as a NCAA D-II program as part of the Great Lakes Valley Conference. University of Indianapolis is one of the few fortunate programs to be able to continue competing in tournaments this fall during the COVID-19 pandemic, and has enjoyed a string of victories in its first few weeks.

The Greyhounds are led by head coach Brent Nicoson ([email protected] , who has been coach of the team since 2011. Coach Nicoson also is head coach of the men’s golf team at University of Indianapolis, and as coach of both teams, Nicoson has won a combined 12 conference titles and 11 GLVC Coach of the Year awards. Notably, University of Indianapolis Women’s Golf has won 2 NCAA D-II National Championships in the last 5 years, their school’s only national titles. The city of Indianapolis named May 19, 2018 as University of Indianapolis Women’s Golf Champions Day!

After months full of uncertainty and angst with the pandemic gripping the nation, the Greyhounds were unsure about opportunities to compete this fall. Nevertheless, the Greyhounds’ Women’s Golf team has won 2 of their first 2 events. During this stretch, they won their home event, the UIndy Fall Invitational at Prairie View Golf Club with a three-day total of 875, a victory of 29 strokes. Each of their team members finished inside the top-10, and junior Cailyn Henderson won medalist honors with rounds of 75-70-71.

The following week, the team played in a D-I event and won it. At the Hoover Invitational

at Hoover Country Club in AL, the Greyhounds won with a three-day total of 872, good enough for a 6 shot victory. Once again, a member of University of Indianapolis Women’s Golf won the individual title. Fifth-year senior Pilar Echevarria, a four-time First-Team All-American, won with rounds of 71-72-70. This was the 17th win of her career in 46 college starts!!

Players must test negative for COVID-19 before they compete. Today, the Greyhounds are finishing up play at the William Beall Fall Classic in Ohio, their third event of the season. We commend University of Indianapolis Women’s Golf for an awesome start to the fall, and we wish them continued success in the future!
