What are the basic requirements to be ranked?

To appear in our rankings, you must meet ALL of the following criteria:

  • Tournament Activity: Must have played in verified tournaments within the last 365 days
  • Minimum Tournaments: Must have played at least 3 tournaments 
  • Verified: Results posted by our staff and JGH Members’ results checked and verified by our staff
  • Athlete Gender
  • Graduation Year

 

How recent must my tournament play be?

All tournament data used for rankings must be from the last 365 days from the current date. Older tournament results are not included in current rankings calculations.

When will my results be posted?

We typically compile results on Mondays and Tuesdays. If your event ended on a Sunday, the tournament host may not have supplied results yet, and your tournament may not show until the following week.

Scoring and Calculations

What scores are used for my ranking?

The system primarily uses 18-hole tournament rounds for most calculations:

  • Scoring Average: Only uses 18-hole scores from the last 12 months
  • Scoring Differential: Calculated from 18-hole scores with valid course ratings
  • Round Averages: Tracks your average score by round (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th rounds)

 

How is my Scoring Differential calculated?

Scoring Differential is your Scoring Average minus the Average Course Rating of courses you’ve played:

  • Only calculated if you have scores from at least 3 different tournaments
  • Uses verified 18-hole scores
What is the points-based ranking system?

Your ultimate ranking is calculated using weighted components:

  • Scoring Differential: 65% – How you perform relative to course difficulty
  • Scoring Average: 10% – Your average score (lower is better)
  • Tournament Quality: 10% – Average strength of tournaments played
  • Tournament Volume: 5% – Number of tournaments played
  • Average Finish: 10% – Your average finishing position

Tournaments

Which tournaments count toward my ranking?

Tournaments must meet these criteria:

  • Verified: Tournament must be verified in the system
  • Recent: Must have occurred within the last 365 days

 

Do all my tournament finishes count?

For finish-based statistics:

  • Points Calculations: Only tournaments with 20+ players count for “points” finishes
  • Regular Finishes: All verified tournaments count for general finish statistics

How are state and country rankings determined?
  • State Rankings: Based on your Home State in your profile
  • Country Rankings: Based on your Country in your profile
  • Both use the same Total Points calculation as national rankings
  • You must have valid state/country data to appear in geographic rankings

Data Quality and Verification

Why might my scores not appear in rankings?

Common reasons scores are excluded:

  • Date Range: Scores older than 365 days are not included
  • Missing Data: Sometimes the tournament data is not supplied to us. If you are a JGH member and this is the case for an event you played in, let us know and we will try to get it for you!
How often are rankings updated?

The rankings are generally updated once a week. Public holidays, etc, may influence our schedule.

Performance Metrics

What additional statistics are tracked?

Beyond basic rankings, the system tracks:

Tournament Performance:

  • Tournaments played in last 365 days
  • Total rounds played
  • Top 1, Top 3, and Top 10 finishes
  • Average field size of tournaments played

Course Statistics:

  • Average course yardage played
  • Maximum yardage played
  • Average course rating
  • Most common state where you compete

Comparative Data:

  • Performance vs. top players
  • Round-by-round performance averages

Common Questions

Why do I need at least 3 tournaments?

This minimum ensures statistical reliability for:

  • Scoring average calculations
  • Course rating assessments
  • Ranking differential computations
Can I see my ranking movement over time?

Yes, the system tracks ranking movement and updates this data through a separate procedure that compares current and previous ranking positions.

What if I play tournaments in multiple states?

The system tracks all states where you’ve competed and determines your “most common state” based on where you play most frequently. However, your state ranking is based on your Home State in your profile.

In addition to all of our other site features, JGH Members receive priority support:

  • Missing Tournament Data: Members can request we source missing tournament results
  • Verification Priority: Member-submitted tournaments receive expedited verification
  • Support Tickets: Member inquiries are prioritized in our support queue
  • Data Corrections: Members receive faster resolution for ranking discrepancies
What if my tournament data is missing?

For JGH Members: Contact us immediately if you played in a tournament that doesn’t appear in your profile. We prioritize member requests and will actively work to obtain missing results from tournament organizers.

For Non-Members: We handle data requests as time permits, but member requests receive priority. Consider becoming a JGH member for faster support and guaranteed attention to your ranking concerns.

How do we handle support requests?

Due to high volume, we prioritize all support requests in the following order:

  1. JGH Members – Priority handling with faster response times
  2. Tournament-specific issues – Critical ranking errors affecting multiple players
  3. General inquiries – Handled as time and resources permit

Becoming a JGH member ensures your ranking concerns receive immediate attention and resolution.
