Laney Frye
Freshman
University of Kentucky Women’s Golf
From Lexington, KY

This week we would like to give a Special Hub Spotlight to former Hub member, Laney Frye! Laney is in her first year at the University of Kentucky. This week, she played in her very first collegiate event in Arkansas, at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational. This event was televised as part of three collegiate events that will be airing live on GOLF Channel this fall. Frye finished T-6 in a field of 70 competitors! She shot rounds of 71-76-72, finishing at +3 for the event. While Kentucky finished 8th out of 14 teams at the event, Frye was the only member of her team to finish inside the top-10.

We would also like to give a shout out to University of Arkansas redshirt junior Brooke Matthews, who dominated at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational to win the individual title by 5 shots, at 10-under par!

Last year, Laney finished inside the top-5 of the 2019-2020 Hub Cup Standings. She has taken that momentum into this past summer in which she played very well. She began by winning the Pete & Alice Dye Junior Invitational at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana, with a 5-shot victory finishing at -2 for the event – a finish which included 2 eagles in the last round! Before her start as a Wildcat, she finished runner up at the Metropolitan Amateur Championship, and qualified for match play at the 120th Women’s Western Amateur played at Prestwick Country Club in Illinois.

The Junior Golf Hub is very proud of Laney Frye, and we thank her for being part of our Hub family! We wish her continued success as a Kentucky Wildcat.

Enjoy Your Journey!
