This week on the Hub Program Spotlight we would like to feature Abilene Christian University Men’s Golf, a program that competes in the NCAA DI Southland Conference. ACU is one of the few fortunate programs to be able to continue competing in tournaments this fall during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ACU Wildcats are led by head coach Tom Shaw ([email protected]), who has been coach of the team for the past seven years and played collegiate golf at Georgia Tech. Despite their Spring 2020 season being shortened, in February 2020, the program welcomed their brand new Byron Nelson Clubhouse, which looks out onto ‘The Jim’ outdoor practice facility. This new clubhouse features a training room, indoor simulator, and snack station, as well as a conference room and garage for the program’s van to travel to tournaments.

Coach Shaw has guided the Wildcats to 4 tournament victories and has mentored 46 student-athletes who made the Southland Conference Honor Roll. This fall season ACU is competing in three events, one of which was played this past week at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate, after the team prepared by using their new facility and received new golf bags.

At the tournament hosted by Louisiana Tech, the Wildcats came in eighth place with team scores of 296, 287, and 292. Junior Brian Choe recorded 13 birdies in the event and finished T-7, -2 with rounds of 71-73-70. Senior Chase Allison had the low round of the week for the team with a 68.
