This week on the Hub Program Spotlight we would like to feature University of Alabama at Birmingham Men’s Golf, a program that competes as a NCAA D-I program as part of Conference USA. UAB is one of the few fortunate programs to be able to continue competing in tournaments this fall during the COVID-19 pandemic, and has enjoyed recent success.

The UAB Blazers are led by head coach Mike Wilson ([email protected]), who has been coach of the team for the past four years and was recently named the Conference USA Coach of the Year for 2019-20. The Blazers are currently nationally ranked inside the top 50, and Wilson has led five of his athletes to All-Conference USA accolades. UAB has had some notable alumni, including Graeme McDowell, Paul Dunne and Zack Sucher!

After not knowing when they would compete again after the pandemic struck the nation in March, this fall, the Blazers’ Men’s Golf team has won 2 of their first 2 events! During this stretch, the UAB Blazers have won head-to-head against 20 teams total. At the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate, UAB went -21 through three days to win! With a three-day total of 843, they won by 14 strokes.

The following week, the Blazers won the Scenic City Classic to win back-to back events for the first time in 24 years. With a final round team score of 287, 3 players on UAB finished inside the top-10, and the team won by 6 strokes.

Players must test negative for COVID-19 72 hours before they compete. Today, UAB is competing in their third event this fall at the Graeme McDowell Intercollegiate. We wish the University of Alabama at Birmingham continued success this fall and beyond!
