Prioritizing Family

McGraw is stepping away from the program to focus on personal matters, specifically to care for his wife of 30 years, Pam. He shared that Pam currently requires dialysis treatments three times a week, and he felt it was necessary to be there to support her during this time.

A Transformative Decade at Baylor

During his 12 years in Waco, McGraw elevated Baylor golf to a national powerhouse. His impact on the program’s consistency was remarkable:

  • He led the Bears to six NCAA Championship berths in the last nine potential seasons.
  • Before his arrival, the program had only made five such appearances in its entire history.
  • The team secured 20 titles and 13 individual championships under his watch.

Developing Elite Talent

McGraw was known for his ability to develop world-class athletes, coaching 11 All-Americans during his tenure at Baylor. One of his standout pupils, Johnny Keefer, recently earned his PGA Tour card and is currently ranked 46th in the world.

A Hall of Fame Career

McGraw’s 28 years in NCAA Division I golf were defined by winning at the highest level. He retires with three national championships, having seen success at powerhouse programs including Oklahoma State and Alabama before joining Baylor. In recognition of these achievements, he was inducted into the Oklahoma Golf Hall of Fame in 2025.

The Path Forward

The university has appointed Ryan Murphy to serve as the interim head coach for the upcoming spring season. Murphy, who joined the staff in early 2025 after a decade leading the University of Texas women’s program, will take the reins as the team prepares for their next tournament in February.
