Karl Stenson — son of major champion Henrik Stenson — has verbally committed to play golf at the University of Florida.
Stenson, a rising junior at Circle Christian School in Orlando who also goes by Kalle, announced the commitment Friday. He’s currently No. 118 in the Universal Golf Ranking and 15th in the Class of 2028, with a No. 2,628 ranking in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. He’s spent much of this summer playing junior and amateur events in Sweden, and won tournaments in both Sweden and Spain last year.
Not the first Ryder Cup kid to land in Gainesville
Stenson isn’t the first son of a European Ryder Cup player to pick Florida. Luke Poulter — son of Ian Poulter — is a senior for the Gators and a two-time Walker Cupper, having just helped GB&I win this year’s Walker Cup at Lahinch.
The pairing puts two well-known golf surnames on the same college roster, and it’s a reminder of how much the recruiting world pays attention to lineage — though rankings like Stenson’s own top-15 mark in his class make clear he’s built a case well beyond his father’s name.
Joining a loaded roster
Florida enters the 2026-27 season ranked No. 1 in Golf Channel’s preseason team rankings, giving Stenson a landing spot at the top of the sport as he heads into his final two years of high school. For a Class of 2028 recruit, an early commitment to a program at that level is a significant marker — and one worth watching as his junior and amateur results continue to roll in over the next two years before he steps on campus.
