JGH College Database Update and Advanced College Finder

Shortly after JGH’s inception, Golf Digest dubbed our platform as “a matchmaker for junior golfers and college golf coaches.” With the addition of our newest feature, it sure makes that title sound more and more appropriate! So without further ado, we are thrilled to announce the addition of our Advanced College Finder!

It’s a big world out there! With 2,200+ programs making up the college golf landscape, how does a junior golfer find programs that might be good fits? Hub Premium Members can now smart filter through our extensive college golf program database using advanced variables including scoring averages, academics, college majors and more!

Here’s a sample advanced college search. It’s a throwback to when our very own Rick Dowling wanted to ‘Find a College’ back in his high school days (2011).

First, Rick geographically narrowed his search to schools in the Northeast and Southeast, where he had family close by. Next, Rick wanted to find schools in NCAA Division I and II only, as he liked the idea of potentially earning an athletic scholarship.

Now, on to the good stuff! Rick then went into our Advanced College Finder to drill down further into our college golf program database, based on his 2011 playing and academic characteristics, as well as his desired area(s) of study and school size.

Here’s his advanced search:

Low Player Scoring Avg:               Between 70 and 80

5th Player Scoring Avg:                 Between 75 and 80

Avg SAT Score (accepted):          1200 and Higher

Avg ACT Score (accepted):          25 and Higher

Avg GPA (accepted):                    3.0 and Higher

Majors Offered:                             Business

School Size:                                  1,000-9,999

As we mentioned before, there are over 2,200 college golf programs in the U.S. (1,200-plus for Men, 900-plus for Women). Rick started with a list of over 1,200 possible programs and after setting his target criteria in our Advanced College Finder, he came up with a list of 12! Super Easy!

Here’s his list of ‘Matching Programs’:

And appropriately enough, Rick attended and played collegiate golf at Fairfield University, one of his 12 ‘Matching Colleges.’

Here at The Hub, we focus on the importance of finding colleges and college golf programs that match your playing and academic characteristics, as well as your financial means and career goals, among other criteria.
