The Metropolitan Golf Association (MGA), a renowned golf organization, recently announced the launch of its Junior Council. This move signifies a crucial stride in the MGA’s commitment to promoting junior development in golf, both on and off the course.
MGA Junior Council: Elevating Junior Voices
The MGA Junior Council is a youth leadership and advisory group created to elevate the voices of junior golfers across the Metropolitan Area. The Council aims to bring together high school students from across the region. The focus of this initiative is to provide these young golfers with a platform where they can share their insights, ideas, and peer-driven feedback.
The Junior Council’s primary goals are threefold. Firstly, it aims to increase junior participation in the sport. Secondly, the Council will work towards strengthening long-term engagement with golf. Lastly, fostering a more inclusive and connected junior golf community is on its agenda.
Defining the Future of Junior Golf
The Junior Council will allow junior golfers to help shape the future of MGA’s junior programming. Members will have the opportunity to contribute to social media and marketing initiatives. This collaboration will facilitate a diverse exchange of ideas among junior golfers from different regions.
The 2026-2027 council members will have a unique opportunity. They will form the inaugural class of the council members and help define how the group operates in the future.
Application Process and Eligibility
Applications for the MGA Junior Council are now open and will be accepted until April 15, 2026. High school students residing within the MGA region (New York, Fairfield County, Conn., or New Jersey) are eligible to apply. The MGA has made it clear that golfers of all skill levels are welcome to apply.
Council members will serve a one-year term from May 2026 through May 2027. They are expected to participate in both in-person events and virtual meetings, attend meetings approximately every 6–8 weeks throughout the year, maintain good academic standing, and demonstrate strong sportsmanship on and off the golf course.
This initiative by the MGA is a significant step forward in creating a more inclusive, diverse, and interconnected golfing community. By giving young golfers a voice, the MGA is not only strengthening their relationship with the sport but also empowering them to shape the future of golf.
