Stanford University’s Women’s Golf team made history this past Sunday at Porters Neck Country Club. The top-ranked Cardinal secured their first-ever ACC Championship (after joining the conference in 2025) title by defeating SMU 3-0. This dominant victory marks a major milestone for the program and reinforces their status as the nation’s best.

A Dominant Performance from the Start

Stanford arrived in Wilmington as the number one team and immediately proved why. They won the opening hole in all five matches and never looked back. By the turn, the Cardinal held the lead across the entire board. Consequently, they left little doubt about their championship credentials.

Clinching the Historical Win

Freshman Meja Örtengren secured the first point with a 4&3 win over Grace Jin. Shortly after, Megha Ganne added a second point by defeating Mackenzie Lee 3&2. Finally, individual medalist Paula Martín Sampedro clinched the title with a 4&3 victory over Emily Odwin.

Because the team clinched the win early, officials left the matches for Andrea Revuelta and Kelly Xu unfinished. Furthermore, this win adds a prestigious conference trophy to Stanford’s already impressive season resume.

Focus Shifts to the National Stage

The Cardinal currently leads the latest WGCA Poll and carries massive momentum. Now, the team shifts its focus to the NCAA postseason and the pursuit of a national title. Stanford follows Florida State as the second consecutive first-time winner of this event.

All eyes now turn to the NCAA Selection Show on April 29. The Cardinal proved they are the team to beat as they head toward regional play.
