Presbyterian College junior Spence Hagood recently earned the Adidas/Game One Student-Athlete of the Week award. This honor follows his legendary performance at the 2026 Big South Men’s Golf Championship. Hagood’s composure under pressure secured two match-clinching points, leading the Blue Hose to their first-ever conference title.


Clinching a Historic Title

The championship final against USC Upstate turned into a marathon battle at Ocean Creek Golf Course. Hagood faced off against Alec Prentice in a match that eventually reached a second playoff hole. Although he trailed for most of the front nine, Hagood rallied with three straight birdies. Consequently, he won the match on the 20th hole to secure a 3-2 team victory. This win represents a massive milestone for the program.

Semifinal Heroics

Hagood’s clutch play began even before the finals. During the morning semifinals, Presbyterian faced a 2-0 deficit against High Point. The team needed a perfect comeback to survive. Hagood delivered the final blow by defeating Burch Harrison 1UP. This victory completed the 3-2 comeback and punched the Blue Hose’s ticket to the title round.

Dominating the Field

Presbyterian’s success started during the stroke play segment of the tournament. The team dominated the field to earn the top seed for match play. Key highlights included:

  • Team Score: A first-place finish with an 848 (-4) total.

  • Hagood’s Performance: A solid 10th-place individual finish at 212 (-1).

  • Historic Milestone: The program’s first Big South crown and an automatic NCAA Regional berth.

A Bright Future for the Blue Hose

This recognition highlights Hagood’s remarkable talent and mental toughness. His ability to perform on the biggest stage established him as an elite collegiate golfer. Furthermore, his performance underscores the rising strength of the Presbyterian athletic department.
