It was a day of records and remarkable performances at the SEC Championship, where the University of Missouri (Mizzou) women’s golf team made history. Led by senior Jade Zamora, the team achieved its lowest-ever score at the Championship and propelled Mizzou into the spotlight.

Zamora’s Stellar Performance

On the second day of the championship, Zamora carded a three-under 67, the best score by a Tiger at the championship in school history. This extraordinary feat was reached with a clean scorecard – finishing with no bogeys and birdies on holes five, seven, and 13. Her score of 67 trumps Mizzou’s previous record at the SEC Championship of 68, set by Jessica Yuen in 2017 and matched by Melanie Walker last season and Ebba Liljeberg in round one this year.

Team Sets Record Score

It wasn’t just individual records that were shattered. As a team, the Tigers posted a score of 279, the lowest-ever score for Mizzou at the SEC Championship. This achievement surpassed the previous record of 284, set in the third round last year.

The Tigers’ performance placed them in 12th place overall at +7, ahead of two teams that rank above Mizzou nationally, No. 31 Kentucky (+17) and No. 32 LSU (+18).

Continued Standout Performances

Liljeberg continues to be a strong player for Mizzou, leading the team after 36 holes at even par. She added a second-round 72 after playing her opening 18 holes at two-under, placing her in 23rd place overall.

Walker joins Zamora at +3 after a second-round 70. Addie Dobson also showed promise, firing a 70 during Saturday’s action.

Looking Forward

As the Tigers set to tee off the final round of stroke play, they’re aiming to continue their climb toward the top eight and match play qualification. Their record-setting performance points to a promising future for Mizzou women’s golf.

This historic day at the SEC Championship serves as a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Mizzou women’s golf team. With players like Zamora, Liljeberg, and Dobson leading the charge, the future looks bright for Mizzou women’s golf.
