High Point University (HPU) is currently capturing the nation’s attention in the world of women’s golf. Following a historic victory at the Big South Conference Championship, the Panthers have transitioned from a regional contender to a national spotlight. Major media outlets like Spectrum News and the High Point Enterprise are now following the team closely to uncover the secret behind their rapid success.

Leadership and a Season of Firsts

This championship marks the first title in the program’s history. Much of this success stems from the strategic leadership of Head Coach Lyndsey Hunnell, now in her fourth season. Under her guidance, the team spent the year rewriting the record books. The Big South recently recognized her efforts by naming her the Coach of the Year. Consequently, the Panthers entered the postseason with a newfound confidence and a dominant presence on the green.

Selection Show Drama and Seeding

The excitement reached a fever pitch during the team’s NCAA Division I Selection Show Watch Party. Surrounded by fans and faculty, the Panthers learned they earned the No. 9 seed in the Chapel Hill Regional. This trip represents another massive milestone: the program’s first-ever appearance in an NCAA Regional. Freshman star Makayla Grubb, the Big South Freshman of the Year, will lead the charge alongside teammate Anaïs Arafi, who clinched the conference title in a thrilling 22-hole playoff.

The Challenge at UNC Finley

The Panthers will travel to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, for the tournament from May 11–13. The competition takes place at the UNC Finley Golf Course, a demanding par-70 layout. As the team prepares for this elite field, they continue to train relentlessly. Furthermore, they carry the support of the entire High Point community. These athletes have already reshaped the narrative of women’s sports at HPU, and the nation is eager to see what they do next.
