Founded in 1899, the WGA is one of the oldest and most prestigious golf organizations in the country. Beyond running world-class tournaments, they fuel the Evans Scholarship Fund, which provides full tuition and housing to high-achieving caddies. To date, over 12,500 students have graduated as Evans Scholars, with 1,260 currently enrolled at 27 universities.
Competing in a “Western” event isn’t just about a trophy; it’s about joining a legacy that includes Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Nancy Lopez.
108th Western Junior (Boys)
When: June 15–18, 2026
Where: Knollwood Country Club | Lake Forest, IL
Format: 72 holes of stroke play. The field of 156 is cut to the low 44 (and ties) after 36 holes.
Why It Matters: Established in 1914, this is the oldest national junior championship in the U.S. It’s a literal proving ground for PGA TOUR stars like Collin Morikawa, Scottie Scheffler, and Rickie Fowler. Finishing in the top three earns you an exemption into the Western Amateur—the #2 ranked amateur event in the world.
How to Get In:
- Exemptions (Categories A-C): Top 100 Rolex AJGA/JGS rankings, Rolex All-Americans, or top finishers in major national invitationals (Sage Valley, Junior PGA, etc.).
- Special Consideration (D-1): If you aren’t automatically exempt, you can apply via a tournament resume. The committee hand-picks a limited number of players based on their competitive history.
- Deadline: Apply by May 8, 2026, for D-1 consideration.
99th Women’s Western Junior (Girls)
When: June 8–12, 2026
Where: Meridian Hills Country Club | Indianapolis, IN
Format: 36 holes of stroke play qualifying, followed by a 16-player match play bracket to crown the champion.
Why It Matters: Since 1920, this event has been a launchpad for the LPGA. Past winners like Nancy Lopez and Cristie Kerr have combined for over 250 LPGA victories and 11 majors. It is a true test of both endurance (stroke play) and nerves (match play).
How to Get In:
- Exemptions (Categories A-C): Top 150 Rolex AJGA/JGS rankings, 2025 Match Play qualifiers, or top-tier finishes in events like the U.S. Girls’ Junior or Junior PGA.
- Special Consideration (D-1): Non-exempt players must submit a golf resume with their application for a chance at a committee invitation.
- Deadline: Entries close May 11, 2026.
