Jackson State University (JSU) has announced the reinstatement of its men’s and women’s golf programs, dormant since 2017, with alumnus Rob Ford II appointed as head coach. Ford, a two-time JSU graduate with degrees in Health & Physical Education and a Master’s in Sports Science, brings experience from his recent role as head coach at Andrew College and as an assistant coach at Prairie View A&M University.

Under Ford’s leadership, JSU aims to revitalize its historically successful golf programs. The women’s team, established in 1994, has secured 14 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championships and was the first Historically Black College and University (HBCU) to participate in the NCAA Tournament. The men’s team boasts 25 SWAC titles, including a remarkable streak of 23 consecutive wins from 1989 to 2011, and also holds the distinction of being the first HBCU men’s team to compete in the NCAA Tournament.

For junior golfers and their parents, this development signifies a renewed opportunity to join a program with a rich legacy of excellence. Coach Ford’s return to JSU reflects a commitment to fostering talent both on and off the course, providing a promising environment for aspiring collegiate golfers.
