Brown Golf Is Back: Bears Announce Fall Schedules for First Varsity Season Since 2020

Women’s schedule: four events

The Brown women open the season September 26-27 at the Princeton Invitational in New Jersey — a field that includes every other Ivy League opponent Brown will face this season, giving the Bears an immediate read on where they stand in the conference.

From there:

Sept. 28-29 — Sacred Heart Invitational, Great River Golf Club (Connecticut)

Oct. 11-12 — Albany Invitational

Oct. 26-27 — Lehigh Invitational (season closer)

Men’s schedule: five events

The men’s team opens on home turf, hosting the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate September 19-20 at Ledgemont, alongside Bryant and Providence College. It’s described as the largest tournament Brown has hosted in program history — a notable marker for a program just getting back on its feet.

The rest of the fall slate:

Sept. 26-27 — Yale Invitational, Yale Golf Course

Oct. 3-4 — Columbia Invitational, Lake Placid

Oct. 12-13 — Sacred Heart Invitational (Connecticut)

Oct. 24-25 — Lehigh Invitational, Saucon Valley Country Club (season closer)

Why it matters

Program cuts during 2020 hit a number of college golf programs hard, and reinstatements like Brown’s are still relatively rare — which makes this fall meaningful beyond just one school’s schedule. For juniors with Ivy League ambitions, it’s one more varsity roster and one more set of scholarship-adjacent opportunities (Ivy League programs don’t offer athletic scholarships, but admissions support and roster spots matter all the same) back on the board in a conference where spots are already scarce.

Both teams will be measuring themselves against the rest of the Ivy League early and often — the women at Princeton in week one, the men against Yale in week two — so results out of Brown’s opening month should offer an early gauge of how quickly the rebuilt programs can compete.
