The Bridgeport Country Club in West Virginia is bracing to welcome back the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) for its 2026 Junior Championship. Slated to take place from July 13–16, this marks the tournament’s second year following an impressive debut in 2025.
A Successful Inaugural Year
Last year, the tournament had a profound impact both on the golf course and in the community. With the support of title sponsor WVU Medicine United Hospital Center and a host of local community partners, the 2025 event raised close to $20,000 for local charities.
One of the highlights of the week was the Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament. This event allowed amateur golfers from the surrounding community a chance to play alongside golf’s rising stars, while also supporting the AJGA’s mission.
In addition, the 2025 event provided special tee gift packages for players and hosted a warm welcome reception for all families. Consequently, it racked up nominations for three AJGA honors: Hospitality Award, Tournament of the Year, and Newcomer of the Year.
Recognition and Support
The community’s support was instrumental to the success of the tournament. As Chris Kerr, AJGA Volunteer Chair, asserted, ‘The community really stepped up to support the tournament both financially and by donating their time volunteering.’
In acknowledgment of his leadership, Mike Gervais, Head Golf Professional at Bridgeport Country Club, was nominated for the AJGA’s 2025 Golf Professional of the Year Award.
Looking Ahead to 2026
As the tournament returns this July, the AJGA is set to once again bring top junior golf talent to Bridgeport Country Club. The week’s activities will kick off with a Qualifier on Sunday, July 12, followed by player registration, a practice round, and the Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament on Monday, July 13.
Competitive rounds will be played from July 14–16, culminating in an awards ceremony immediately following the final round.
Mike Gervais, Head Golf Professional at Bridgeport Country Club, shared his enthusiasm, ‘We’re incredibly excited to welcome the AJGA back to Bridgeport Country Club for year two of this championship. The buy-in from our membership is what sets this event apart and helps create a welcoming environment for everyone involved.’
As the community, sponsors, and players look forward to the 2026 Championship, it’s clear that the event will not only be a competitive platform for junior golfers, but also a space to foster community spirit and charitable giving.
