The Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic witnessed a historic moment this past weekend. Freshman Trinity Beth of the Georgia Bulldogs delivered an exceptional performance, recording a 6-under 66 in the tournament’s opening round. Notably, this score set a new benchmark, being the best ever by a Georgia golfer in the event’s 54-year history.

Stellar Performance by Trinity Beth

Beth’s historic round was a result of her impressive skill and determination. She birdied five of her last six holes, leading to her record-breaking score. Despite a bogey on her first hole, Beth quickly regained her footing with a birdie at the second hole. She continued to display her resilience, finishing the front nine with a birdie-bogey-birdie sequence. The final stretch of her round saw her birdie holes 13, 14, 16, 17, and 18, completing her unparalleled performance.

The freshman golfer, who joined the Bulldogs in January, now leads the individual standings by two strokes over High Point’s Anna Howerton. Beth’s performance has been praised by the university’s Head Golf Coach, Erika Brennan, who commended her fearless style and exceptional ball striking abilities.

Bulldogs’ Performance

The Bulldogs’ team overall performance was also noteworthy. They carded a 5-over 293 and currently hold second place in the 16-team field. This position puts them just three shots behind High Point. Contributions from other team members, including a 1-over 73 from freshman Gabriella Albert and a pair of 77s from sophomore Sydney Givens and redshirt junior Karoline Tuttle, also helped in securing their current standing.

Looking Forward

The Bulldogs are gearing up for the tournament’s second round, to be played alongside High Point and Rutgers. The teams will tee off from No.1 between 8:30-9:06 am ET. Admission to the tournament is free, with live scoring available for golfing enthusiasts to keep track of the competition.

The Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic is a prestigious event on the university’s sporting calendar. Over the years, it has seen numerous talented golfers from the Bulldogs, with Beth’s performance adding to this rich history. The previous best round for a Bulldog in this tournament was a 5-under 67, a record held by three players – Caterina Don in 2024, Jillian Hollis in 2017, and Marta Silva Zamora in 2011. Beth’s record-setting round adds a new chapter to the Bulldogs’ legacy in the tournament.
