Two amateur golfers from Canada, Lauren Kim and Anna Huang, finished atop the leaderboard this past weekend at the Peloton Glencoe Invitational at The Glencoe Golf and Country Club. Kim and Huang’s performances in Calgary, Alberta, Canada earned them respective exemptions to the CPKC Women’s Open, an official event on the LPGA Tour, at the Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club in Vancouver, British Columbia on July 25th-28th.

Despite rain creating two lengthy delays on Saturday, Lauren Kim continued her great play and shot a final round 70 to finish at 10 under and win the Peloton Glencoe Invitational. Over the course of the three days of play, the Surrey, B.C. native shot 69-67-70 for a total score of 10-under par 206. Kim is a member of Team Canada and a freshman at the University of Texas. The 18 year old is the reigning Canadian Women’s Amateur champion and made the cut at this year’s Augusta National Women’s Amateur. This will be her second consecutive appearance at the CPKC Women’s Open.

Kim stated that there was something different that worked for her each day in Calgary. “The first two days my ball striking was really good, and I would say my putting came in really clutch today, I made a lot of really good par putts that saved my scores” (via Golf Canada).

For Anna Huang, it was her patience that she said got her through Saturday and led to her strong finish. “I had a couple rough holes, but my mindset was just focus on each shot and play some simple steady golf and I think that’s what helped me” (via Golf Canada).

From Vancouver, B.C., the 15 year old earned her exemption after finishing with a birdie on the 18th, closing out the day with a final score of 8-under 208 (69-67-72). Huang is a member of Team Canada NextGen and contributed to the team’s win at the 2023 World Junior Girls Championship. Next month will be her first appearance at the CPKC Women’s Open.

The Peloton Glencoe Invitational had a field of 51 players in the women’s division, with a mix of amateurs and pros. The tournament was the first in a series of three in the She Plays Golf Championship Series.

She Plays Golf is a celebration of women’s golf, with its 54 hole tournaments played in Canada including fields of amateur and professional golfers. Players earn points for their finishes towards series-long standings. The golfer with the most points will enter the CPKC Women’s Open, if not already qualified, and will be backed by Golf Canada’s Q School to enter the LPGA Q School in the fall.

She Plays Golf promotes more inclusive programming, addresses gaps in the participation pathway for women and girls in golf, and introduces new female players to the game in a fun, safe, judgment-free environment. The Championship Series event includes activities that allow women and girls to try golf for the first time, professional development for female coaches, and networking opportunities for women in business, leadership, and beyond.
