With the conclusion of the U.S. Women’s Open this past Sunday, four players in the field of 156 stand out in particular. A total of 22 amateurs played at Lancaster Country Club, making up almost 15 percent of the field, but only four were able to make the cut. Two of them, Megan Schofill and Asterisk Talley, were in contention to win during the first two rounds. Here’s a look at the four amateur golfers who made the cut in Pennsylvania.

Asterisk Talley was the youngest of the four golfers at fifteen years old. Talley posted a final score of 12 over par and shot a 70 and 71 on the first two days, carding a 73 on Sunday’s final round and tying for 44th. Talley’s performance earned her low amateur honors, which she shared with Megan Schofill.

Megan Schofill, who wrapped up her fifth year at Auburn, was the 2023 U.S. Women’s Amateur champion. In this year’s U.S. Women’s Open, she was one over through the first 36 holes and was tied for fifth with Talley. Schofill finished her final round with a 4 over and was also tied for 44th. Schofill remarked that the course was one of the hardest she’s ever played. “It just tested every part of your game: chipping, putting, driving, irons and mental. This is my first U.S. Open and it lived up to the expectations of the USGA making it a hard track” (via Auburn).

Catherine Park from USC was also in the hunt for low amateur honors after 54 holes. She shot a 2 over par 72 on Saturday and finished 54 holes with a 4-over 214. The USC sophomore and Irvine, Calif. native posted scores of 70 and 72 on the first two days, and finished on Sunday at 12-over par, also tied for 44th.

Adelda Cernousek opened with a 69 on her first day before carding a 79 on Friday. She shot a 69 again on her third day before finishing Sunday with a 78, tying the NCAA medalist for 67th with a 15-over 295. The amateurs who missed the cut in the U.S. Women’s Open include Ingrid Linblad, Augusta National Women’s Amateur victor Lottie Woad, Samantha Brown, Kimberly Dinh, Aine Donegan, Maisie Filler, Junia Gabasa, Megha Ganne, Chiara Horder, Cindy Hsu, Katie Li, Keeley Marx, Kiara Romero, Pimpisa Sisutham, Caroline Smith, Latanna Stone and Amelie Zalsman (via Golfweek).
