Asterisk Talley received her first gold jacket after winning the girl’s title at the 2024 Junior Invitational at Sage Valley Golf Club this past Saturday. The fifteen year old maintained the lead throughout three days of challenging competition, finishing with a record breaking 9-under, 207 total. Talley broke the previous Junior Invitational 54-hole scoring record held by Anna Davis who shot a 7-under in 2023. Talley started off strong on her first day and shot a 5-under on the front nine, securing her an opening round of 67. She finished six strokes ahead of runner-up Rianne Malixi, who shot a 69 on the final day.
“It’s exciting to win an event like this against the top girls in the world,” said the Chowchilla, Calif. native. “Even though I had a 4-stroke lead, I came out playing like we were even. The course was softer which allowed me to be aggressive. Even when I was 5-under at the turn, I knew I had to continue to play for birdies and pars.”
2024 marked the 13th annual Junior Invitational which is held each year at the Sage Valley Golf Club in Graniteville, S.C. The event was founded in 2011 and features 24 boys and 36 girls, all amongst some of the top players in the world. Golfweek is quoted calling the event “the No. 1 junior golf event in golf,” as it is one of the most sought-after invitations in the world of junior golf. Some of the current titans of golf have participated in the event, including Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Viktor Hovland, Cameron Young, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Anna Davis, and Megha Ganne. Asterisk Talley’s name is now among these formidable players at the Junior Invitational after her impressive achievement last week.
