Each year, thousands of players tee it up in hopes of earning a coveted spot in the U.S. Open, but for a special group of elite junior golfers, the dream is still alive heading into the final stage of qualifying. Known as “Golf’s Longest Day,” U.S. Open Final Qualifying is one of the most grueling—and prestigious—tests in the sport. In 2025, 30 standout junior boys from across the country have defied the odds, posting impressive rounds at challenging local qualifiers to advance.

Liam Curtis, 18, of Kent, Ohio, was one of six players to advance from the Medina, Ohio, local qualifier on April 29. He is the son of Ben Curtis, who claimed the 2003 Open Championship at Royal St. George’s in his first-ever major-championship start, won four PGA Tour events and played in seven U.S. Opens. Liam, who will play at his father’s alma mater Kent State University in the fall of 2025, was the runner-up in the 2024 Ohio Division I state high school championship.
